News : 1: 1 against Denmark – Poulsen prevents the success of the DFB team – sport

Decent game, disappointing result: the return of the old lead wolves has not yet given the German national soccer team a big boost in the European Championship. With Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels, the team of national coach Jochim Löw only achieved a 1: 1 (0: 0) against Denmark 13 days before the start of the tournament – the defense was safe except for one scene, but the killer instinct was again missing at the front.

On a rainy Wednesday evening, by far not all the cogs meshed smoothly, but Innsbruck also lacked crucial building blocks in Löw’s alleged EM line-up for the duel with world champion France. The Champions League winners Kai Havertz, Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner as well as Ilkay Gündogan, Toni Kroos or Leon Goretzka were not there. Florian Neuhaus (48th) scored 1-0, Yussuf Poulsen (71st) from RB Leipzig equalized.

On Monday (8.45 p.m. / RTL) against Latvia in Düsseldorf, Löw will get closer to his dream team for his last tournament. In the Tivoli Stadium, he first completed a spectacular U-turn: After 926 days of forced break, endless discussions and tough decision-making process, Hummels and Müller wore the national jersey for the first time since November 19, 2018 (2-2 against the Netherlands). Hummels played on the left in the back three with Niklas Süle (center) and Matthias Ginter (right), Müller gave his Bayern teammates Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane loud instructions on pressing and rotation at the front. “Sharpen the senses, arouse greed”, was Löw’s motto – he did not demand perfection, but “focus, passion and concentration”. His team showed all of this, and initially there was still a lack of creativity.

The effort was right – the vote not always. It jerked noticeably in the German structure, Neuhaus (12th) fired the first shot on the Danish goal. Müller (14th) could have scored the 1-0 with a head after a cross from Joshua Kimmich: His blind understanding with five other Bayern players carried over to the DFB-Elf. Lukas Klostermann and Robin Gosens, on the other hand, contributed little to the offensive on the outside, Sane (28th) hit the ball incorrectly.

Defensively, the three-man chain didn’t burn anything for a long time, but offensively, an additional pass station was missing. The low-ranking Danes, placed tenth in the world rankings ahead of Germany (12), did not subject the defense to a stress test: Hummels were spared tricky sprint duels. He sailed just past a Kimmich cross (36th).

Löw watched his clearly superior team in a dark blue sweater calmly, Gnabry circled the ball from the edge of the penalty area with a left-hand crash against the crossbar (44th). The only thing missing was the opening goal, which Neuhaus contributed immediately after the break. The Gladbacher rewarded himself for a committed appearance.

The German team then withdrew a little and left the initiative to the opponent, Löw changed for the first time. The quality and intensity of the game decreased, Denmark got stronger and scored with the first chance to score. After that, Kimmich also failed on the crossbar (77th).

Emre Can was absent on Wednesday due to adductor problems, the quartet from the Champions League final is expected in Seefeld / Tyrol on Thursday. Rüdiger, who is new to being a father for the second time, arrived at the training center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Latvia test and the toughest possible EM test against France are followed in the group phase by the duels with defending champions Portugal (June 19) and Hungary (June 23), all in Munich.
