Africa Cup: Egypt win with Mohamed Salah against Zimbabwe

Host Egypt has started with a win in the Africa Cup. Trézéguet scored the goal of the day 1-0 against Zimbabwe shortly before the break. 75,000 fans in Cairo celebrated above all superstar Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, who remained without scoring at the start of the tournament.
Trézéguet, who earn a living in the Turkish Süper Lig at the small Istanbul club Kasimpasa, scored in the 41st minute after a double with defender Ayman Ashraf. Salah himself had numerous chances to score, but failed several times to Simbawbes keeper Edmore Sibanda and, when the injured had to be replaced, also on his replacement Elvis Chipezeze.
Because of the great heat in Cairo, the game was only started at 22 o'clock local time. Many games of the first time in the summer held tournament, however, will be played at temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius. Before the game, the African Cup was opened in the presence of President Abdel Fattah-el Sisi with a lavish ceremony. For Egypt, this is the first major sporting event since the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
Africa's controversial federation president Ahmad Ahmad, against whom the French authorities investigate allegations of corruption and infidelity, as SPIEGEL reports in its latest issue, sat in the stadium next to Fifa president Gianni Infantino.
For the seven-time titleholders Egypt, the tournament continues on Wednesday (22 clock, TV Dazn) with the game against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
