Africa Cup: Tunisia ends Madagascar's fairy tale

Surprisingly, Madagascar had won Group B in the preliminary round and, against all odds, had advanced to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup in Egypt. The fairy tale ended there, against Tunisia the Malagasy lost 0: 3 (0: 0). The Tunisians will face Senegal in the semi-finals on Sunday.

In the other semi-final, Nigeria play Algeria, which prevailed 4-3 (1-0, 1-1) on penalties against Ivory Coast earlier this evening. A penalty for the Algerians could have brought the decision earlier, but Baghdad Bounedjah hit the bar (48th minute).

For Madagascar, which starts with many players from unterklassigen French league, the game did not start bad. It was not until the 52nd minute that the time had come: The Tunisian Ferjani Sassi moved away from the penalty area and center-back Thomas Fontaine of Stade Reims deflected the ball with his back into the goal - goalkeeper Melvin Adrien did not stand a chance.

From the lead, the superiority of the Tunisians showed, for which Youseff Msakni increased to 2: 0 (60.). In injury time Naim Sliti made the final score (90 + 3).

The round of the last four takes place on Sunday. Senegal plays against Tunisia at 6 pm, followed by Algeria against Nigeria at 9 pm. The streaming service Dazn transmits both games.
