News : Beth Potter’s 5k World Record that will not be homologated
A few days ago there was an amazing World Record on a 5k en route. Not because of the record itself (the last months the world records of 5k, 10k, half marathon, etc. have not stopped being pulverized, etc.), but because of who achieved it. A semi-unknown athlete (in the athletic world, since in 2019 she was the European triathlon champion) and, most importantly, not an African.
Nor did we remember the last best mark in history at the world level that someone non-African achieved. The fact is that the British Beth Potter crossed the finish line in the 5km of Barrowfield in 14:41 last Saturday, two seconds less than the one signed by the Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech on February 14 in Monaco.

We are used to many athletes hitting important bites to their best registers since the appearance of these ‘miracle’ carbon plate shoes, but what has happened with Potter is beyond all logic. He had a best time of 15:24 and dropped it by 43 seconds in his homeland the other day. Going above the records of the best African women like Chepkoech and also obviously surpassing the British National Record of Paula Radcliffe (14:51). The Scotswoman, 29, participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the 10,000 meters, finishing in thirty-fourth position with a time of 33: 04.34.
The fact is that the brand will almost certainly not be approved by the World Athletics, since the circuit did not comply with the regulations of the international federation in terms of anti-doping controls and other requirements. Even Potter herself did not believe what she had achieved after finishing the test: “I thought it was a joke. I needed someone to confirm the time for me. I thought the watch’s battery was drained! Also that 15:15 would be a very good mark for me ”.
