Despite Corona problems: 500 hours of winter sports on ARD and ZDF

Despite many postponements of events and some cancellations, ARD and ZDF want to offer a similarly extensive range of winter sports as in the previous year. “At the moment, the sum of the transmissions will remain the same,” said ZDF sports director Thomas Fuhrmann of the German press agency. The two public TV channels had around 500 hours of live reporting in their programs last winter.

Due to the corona pandemic, the planning and organization of the Winter sports-Program “massive changes”, explained Fuhrmann. “Conditions change very quickly.” The sports director of the second said: “Now a lot of questions arise. Will the competition take place at all? Will we get there? What quarantine rules apply? What risk is acceptable, what is allowed?”
