Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer (33), ex-world champion Benedikt Doll and Roman Rees experienced a used day. Doll in 24th and Peiffer in 27th shot seven tickets each, Rees in 31st had four penalty loops.

+++ 11.03.2021: Biathlete Peiffer sprints in 13th place in the Czech Republic +++

Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer took 13th place as the best German in the biathlon sprint in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. The 33-year-old from the Harz region made a penalty loop on Thursday and was 46.1 seconds behind the French winner Quentin Fillon Maillet after ten kilometers. The Norwegian Tarjei Bö secured second place in front of the Italian Lukas Hofer. All three ski hunters on the podium made it through without a shooting error, but all six German starters made mistakes with their guns.

In the previous week, Peiffer had run into third place in the first sprint in the same place. The second best German was ex-world champion Benedikt Doll (2 mistakes) in 15th place, Erik Lesser (1) crossed the finish line in 19th, Roman Rees (1) came in 27th. The qualification for the pursuit race of the best 60 on Saturday missed on the other hand the weak Philipp Horn (3/73.) and Johannes Kühn (3/83.).

The World Cup will continue on Friday (5.30 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport) with the women’s sprint. The hunting races and mixed competitions are still on the program on the 2013 World Championship tracks until Sunday, before the season finale in Sweden takes place next week.

+++ March 6th, 2021: Biathlete Doll at the World Cup in Nove Mesto pursuit eighth +++

Biathlete Benedikt Doll finished eighth in the pursuit at the end of the first week of the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. The 30-year-old from the Black Forest made two shooting mistakes and was 15.5 seconds behind the victorious Tarjei Bö (1 mistake) at the finish on Sunday. The Norwegian prevailed just ahead of his younger brother Johannes Thingnes Bö (2) and the French Simon Desthieux (2).

The second best German was Arnd Peiffer. After his third place in the sprint on Saturday, the 33-year-old made three shooting errors and finished in tenth. Thuringian Erik Lesser (2) also showed a decent race in 15th place. Philipp Nawrath (2) had to be content with 29th place.

+++ 05.03.2021: Biathlete Peiffer Sprint third in Nove Mesto – Desthieux wins +++

Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer only missed his eleventh World Cup victory by 4.4 seconds at the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto. The ex-world champion stayed clear in the sprint over ten kilometers on Saturday, but after ten kilometers he just had to give way to the victorious Frenchman Simon Desthieux. Second-placed Swede Sebastian Samuelsson was also just two seconds ahead of Peiffer. This means that the 33-year-old from Harz will start the pursuit on Sunday (4.00 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport) with an excellent starting position.

One day after their brilliant start-finish victory in the relay, Benedikt Doll also convinced in sixth (1 error / + 14.5 seconds) and Erik Lesser in 14th (1 / + 50.7 seconds).

On the other hand, Johannes Kühn experienced a pitch-black day, who missed all five targets after making a mistake while standing and then gave up the race disappointed. He is also missing in the hunt race on Sunday, as is Roman Rees, who was only 61st. One day after his strong performance as a relay runner, Philipp Nawrath had to be content with rank 53.

+++ March 5th, 2021: German biathlon relay with first World Cup victory in four years +++

The German men’s biathlon relay won a World Cup race for the first time in more than four years. The quartet with Erik Lesser, Benedikt Doll, Arnd Peiffer and Philipp Nawrath prevailed on Friday in the Czech Nove Mesto with only five spare rounds ahead of Russia and Norway. One and a half weeks after the World Cup relay debacle with seventh place in Pokljuka, the team looked like they had been changed and were 1: 21.7 minutes ahead of the Russians after 4×7.5 kilometers. The last German success to date was in Antholz in January 2017.

Above all, the 32-year-old Lesser was in the spotlight in front of empty grandstands on the 2013 World Cup tracks. As a starting runner at the World Cup in Slovenia, he suffered a slump, so that his team was out of the race right at the beginning of the competition and had no chance of winning the medals at the end. The Thuringian now shone in Nove Mesto and gave Germany an early lead. The team with last runner Nawrath held this position surprisingly well, while world champion Norwegians made three penalties in difficult wind conditions in the last relay race of the winter.
