Brazil: Murder convicted goalkeeper to play in third division
Brazilian third-tier Poços de Caldas FC will sign goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, convicted of murdering his ex-lover. The 34-year-old should sign his contract in the coming days and be officially presented, said the club president Paulo Cesar da Silva the news portal "Globoesporte". First, however, the player needs a permit from the judicial authorities to train with the club in the state of Minas Gerais.
Bruno had become captain in 2009 with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro Brazilian champions and was considered a candidate for the national team. Currently, however, he is serving a term of imprisonment of more than 20 years, because he had his former lover killed and fed to dogs. Motive for the murder was supposed to have been that his friend Eliza Samudio had not aborted a common child despite the separation, and gave birth. Bruno's wife and some acquaintances were also involved in the crime.
In 2017 Bruno was released by a court order and temporarily played for second division club Boa Esporte. Later, however, the decision was cashed and he had to be imprisoned again. In July Bruno finally came to the half-open execution.
