Canoe World Champion Laurence Vincent-Lapointe suspended for doping
Canoe racing is shaken by a prominent doping case shortly before the World Cup. Eleven times world champion Laurence Vincent-Lapointe from Canada was temporarily suspended on Monday for a positive A-Test and misses the season's high point in Szeged, Hungary, starting on Wednesday.
I am shocked and devastated, I have done absolutely nothing wrong and nothing to hide, I believe in a clean sport, "Vincent-Lapointe said in a statement.
According to the World Federation ICF Vincent-Lapointe "a prohibited substance" was detected. The Canadian Canoe Association suspects contaminated dietary supplements as the cause and secured support for the 27-year-olds.
Since taking the Canadier women into the World Cup program in 2010, Vincent-Lapointe has won eleven out of 16 possible gold medals. At the Olympia 2020 in Tokyo, the discipline will be part of the program for the first time. In Szeged, although a large part of the quota places for Tokyo awarded, Vincent-Lapointe can still get this at the World Cup in Duisburg in May 2020.
