Champions League: Ajax Amsterdam, Bruges and Prague qualified for group stage
Coach Thomas Doll did not make it into the Champions League with his new club APOEL Nicosia. At Ajax Amsterdam, the former Bundesliga coach lost with his team from Cyprus the second leg 0-2 (0: 1). After the 0-0 in the first leg Doll could have hoped for a surprise with a team. The jump into the group stage of the premier class on Wednesday managed next to Amsterdam and Club Bruges and Slavia Prague.
In Amsterdam, Edson Alvarz (43 ') scored the lead for last year's semi-finalists just before the break. Ten minutes before the final whistle succeeded Dusan Tadic then the redeeming 2: 0. Shortly after the change Nicosia was denied a goal by referee Felix Zwayer because of an offside position.
FC Brugge won after the first leg (1-0) and the second leg against Linzer ASK 2-1 (0-0). Slavia Prague won the second leg against CFR Cluj 1-0 (0-0) after having been successful in Romania with the same result. The Czechs are thus returning to the group stage of the Champions League after twelve years of abstinence, making it only the second time they have played for the club.
