+++ 21.07.2019: US show jumper celebrates victory at the CHIO climax just before Deußer +++

Dressage queen Isabell Werth had already celebrated her birthday with champagne and her next victorywhen Kent Farrington narrowly defeated CHIO climax Daniel Deußer. The 37-year-old show jumper from Hesse was a bit too slow in the jump-off of the Grand Prix of Aachen with Tobago. So won the 38-year-old American on Sunday in the saddle of Gazelle with 0.37 seconds ahead of Deußer. "My horse did not really want to start in the jump-off yet," said Deußer. "I still thought it would be enough." With the second place at the biggest tournament in the world he was "still very happy".

The second best result of the hosts was provided by Simone Blum. The 30-year-old world champion from Zolling in Bavaria received a drop in the third round of the tournament's high point and had to settle for fourth place. The final highlight of the world's largest tournament is considered the most prestigious test of equestrian sports and is worth one million euros.

Surprisingly strong was Sven Schlüsselburg. The 37-year-old CHIO debutant from Ilsfeld managed two rounds with Bud Spencer without dropping, only conceding two penalty points because of timeout. "I can not believe it myself, I'm happy and thankful," commented the Aachen rookie his eighth place: "I had a great feeling and could ride loose."

Last year's winner Marcus Ehning already had no chance of repeating the success after the first round. At the last obstacle conceded the hitherto error-free 45-year-old from Borken with Funky Fred a drop. "The last jump I'm not hold this week," commented Ehning - because in the price of Europe and the Nations Cup the same mishap had happened just before the finish. "I'm still not dissatisfied with the week."

Ehning was not the only German who failed at the last jump. Also Christian Ahlmann (Marl) with Clintrexo and Hendrik Sosath (Lemwerder) with Lady Lordana failed in the same place. "Such a shit," commented Ahlmann: "I had such a momentum on it and would have had to switch."

"Of course you can do that," Blum said about the hardest part of the course she mastered: "Of course, that's a great way to adapt, but it was clear from the start that it was a dangerous jump."

Three hours before the beginning of the most important jumping there was a victory in Aachen, as even the most successful rider in the world has not experienced. 6,000 spectators agreed after the renewed triumph of Isabell Werth "Happy Birthday" for her and congratulated on the 50th Birthday. Touched and with wet eyes, the record rider listened to the serenade and then said: "That's a great feeling - thanks, you made me a great birthday."

The series winner also kept her nerve on her special day and won the Aachen Dressage Prize for the 13th time. For the freestyle with the mare Bella Rose Werth received 90,450 percent and held Dorothee Schneider from Framersheim with Showtime (89,660) just at a distance. "Doro has presented well," commented the winner: "I had to accelerate."

Like Schneider with Showtime, Werth also rode to a record with her horse. "Mostly these are the best tests in which you push each other," commented the six-time Olympic champion the best result so far with her mare. "It's great that this worked out in a nutshell: For my birthday, that was the icing on the cake."

Werth had already dominated the dressage on the previous days. She led the German dressage quartet in Aachen to the superior victory in the Nations Cup ahead of Denmark and the US team. And she also won the Grand Prix and the Special in the individual ranking.

+++ 21.07.2019: Werth rides on his 50th birthday to the Kür-victory in Aachen +++

Isabell Werth won the Grand Prix of Aachen for the 13th time on Sunday. On her 50th birthday, the rider from Rheinberg prevailed at the CHIO in the freestyle. For the test with the mare Bella Rose received the most successful rider in the world 90,450 percent. Second place went to Dorothee Schneider from Framersheim with Showtime (89,660). Werth had already won the Grand Prix and the Special at the biggest horse show in the world the day before.

+++ 20.07.2019: Ehning rides at the CHIO-conclusion as defending champion and favorite +++

Last year's winner Marcus Ehning is one of the favorites at the final highlight of the CHIO in Aachen. The 44-year-old show jumper from Borken saddles his horse Funky Fred this Sunday in the Grand Prix. A total of six German couples are qualified. This includes Simone Blum with Alice. The World Champion is in top shape again after a break in operations in winter. In the Nations Cup on Thursday, the 30-year-old from the Bavarian Zolling rode with her mare two perfect laps.

+++ 20.07.2019: German dressage team again wins CHIO Nations Cup +++

The German dressage team won the Nations Cup at the CHIO in Aachen for the eighth time in a row. The team of national coach Monica Theodorescu prevailed on Saturday after the second part of the test undisputed in front of Denmark and the US team. Isabell Werth from Rheinberg and Bella Rose won the individual classification of the Grand Prix Special just ahead of Dorothee Schneider from Framersheim with Showtime.

+++ 07/20/2019: show jumper Weishaupt has to take a break at the CHIO break +++

Philipp Weishaupt injured the coccyx during his riding accident at the CHIO in Aachen. The 33-year-old show jumper therefore has to pause for several days. "Running and sitting, do not ride," said the German champion of 2009 on Saturday. The day before, part of the bridle had been torn at Weishaupt's horse Che Fantastica during the ride in the NRW-Preis, the rider had jumped in a daring action of the mare and gone to the ground.

+++ 20.07.2019: Eckermann waives 500,000-Euro-Chance +++

The Swedish show jumper Henrik von Eckermann waives a start at the Grand Prix of Aachen and thus the chance to earn half a million euros. His horse Mary Lou was tired after the two rounds of the Nations Cup, said the rider living near Bonn: "I'm listening to my gut feeling." The 38-year-old had won the Grand Prix at the Dutch Masters in 's-Hertogenbosch and could have won a bonus of € 500,000 from the Grand Slam series with a success on Sunday in Aachen - in addition to the premium of € 330,000. The Grand Slam also includes tournaments in Geneva and Spruce Meadows in Canada.

+++ 07/20/2019: German team wins CHIO versatility despite failure +++

The German team won the versatility on Saturday at the CHIO in Aachen. The quartet for European champion Ingrid Klimke prevailed after the final terrain change despite a failure in front of New Zealand and Australia. Josefa Sommer had to give up because her horse Hamilton had lost a horseshoe. The team also included Michael Jung from Horb with Star Connection and Andreas Dibowski from Döhle with Corrida. Klimke also won the individual rating. The 51 year old rider from Münster won with Hale Bob in front of Jung with his second horse Chipmunk.

+++ 19.07.2019: Klimke loses leadership in CHIO versatility +++

In the second of three tests of versatility at the CHIO in Aachen, Ingrid Klimke lost the lead. The rider from Münster conceded with Hale Bob in jumping a drop and fell with 24.70 penalty points in third place. It leads the British Laura Collett with London (22.90) in front of the New Zealander Tim Price with Wesko (23.80). In fourth place is Michael Jung from Horb with Chipmunk (25.50). In the team ranking, Germany leads ahead of New Zealand and Great Britain. The decision is made on Saturday on the grounds.

+++ 19.07.2019: CHIO: show jumper Deußer wins the NRW-Preis in Aachen +++

Daniel Deußer won the main competition of the fourth tournament day at the CHIO in Aachen. The jumping rider living in Belgium decided on Friday the price of North Rhine-Westphalia after two rounds in the saddle of Killer Queen for itself. The 37-year-old Hesse prevailed in the test endowed with 100,000 euros with the best time before the Belgian Olivier Philippaerts with Cue Channa. Second best German rider was Hendrik Sosath from Lemwerder, who rode with Lady Lordana in ninth place.

+++ 19.07.2019: Klimke presents CHIO versatility Jung +++

After the first of three part examinations of versatility at the CHIO in Aachen, Ingrid Klimke. The rider from Münster showed on Friday in the dressage with Hale Bob the best ride and is with 20.70 penalty points in first place in front of Michael Jung from Horb with Chipmunk (21.50). In third place is the Briton Laura Collett with London (22.90). The decision is made on Saturday on the grounds.

+++ 19.07.2019: show jumper Thieme crashes at the CHIO in Aachen +++

Jumping rider Andre Thieme crashed spectacularly on Friday at the CHIO in Aachen. His mare Crazy Girl refused at the price of North Rhine-Westphalia in front of the moat, moved to the right and fell to the ground. The 44-year-old came off lightly in the accident, the horse, however, injured. Crazy Girl was driven out of the stadium with a special ambulance. "That looked wild, but went well," said Jan-Hein Swagemakers, the veterinarian of the German rider: The horse had just suffered a "skin injury": "We have stapled."

+++ 19.07.2019: Showjumpers celebrate second place after catching up +++

The national coach beamed. After the spectacular chase and before the party commented Otto Becker: "That was crystal clear." Sixth place in the first round threatened a bitter disappointment at the CHIO in Aachen - but second place was cheered by Becker and his show jumping team. "Alice just did a great job", Simone Blum enthused about her horse, who was the only one in the German team to stay in two rounds without penalty. After exactly 90 years, a Swedish team again won, just ahead of the German.

The focus of the 40,000 spectators was on two riders who made their comeback. Christian Ahlmann from Marl and Daniel Deußer, who lives in Belgium, rode back to the CHIO team after longer breaks. The two professionals had not signed the athlete agreement of the German Olympic Committee for Cavalry (DOKR) in the past two years and therefore could not compete in the national team.

+++ 18.07.2019: Second CHIO victory for show jumper Weishaupt +++

Philipp Weishaupt celebrated his second victory on Thursday at the CHIO in Aachen. The 33 year old jumping rider from Riesenbeck won with Hatrona a test for young horses in front of the Brazilian Eduardo Menezes with action. Previously, Weishaupt had clinched the first home win for showjumpers at this year's CHIO in a two-phase competition with Coby.

+++ 18.07.2019: Dressage team takes the lead at CHIO despite problems +++

The German dressage team took over the lead at the CHIO in Aachen despite the problems of their starting rider. After the Grand Prix, Germany is in first place ahead of Denmark. Third is the US team. The second competition of the Nations Cup is the Grand Prix Special on Saturday.

Helen Langehanenberg struggled on Thursday morning with her listless Damsey Damsey, but her teammates then scored enough points for first place. In the individual classification Isabell Werth from Rheinberg was on first place with 82.783 percent on Bella Rose. Second was Dorothee Schneider from Framersheim with Showtime (80.609) ahead of Brit Charlotte Dujardin with Erlentanz (79.152). Fourth is Jessica von Bredow-Werndl from Tuntenhausen with Dalera (79,000).

+++ 18.07.2019: Will the Germans win the Nations Cup for the fourth time in a row today? +++

Will the Germans win the Nations Cup for the fourth time in a row today? After the hat-trick last year, the host quartet once again belongs to the small circle of favorites.

In the focus of German fans are this time two riders who make their comeback. Christian Ahlmann from Marl and Daniel Deußer, who lives in Belgium, once again ride the CHIO team. The two professionals had not signed the athlete agreement of the German Olympic Committee for Cavalry (DOKR) in the past two years. This is a prerequisite to ride in the national team.

Now they have signed and are back. "That's different than watching jeans like last year," said Deußer. The professional living in Belgium was recently the best German rider and is ranked fourth in the world rankings.

As in the previous year, the CHIO Quartet also includes Simone Blum from Zolling and Marcus Ehning from Borken. National coach Otto Becker nominated 25-year-old Maurice Tebbel as substitute. The rider from Emsbüren belonged in the two previous years to the German teams, which won.

+++ 17.07.2019: Price from Europe: Again no CHIO home win +++

The EquestrianFans in Aachen are waiting for the CHIO to win the first home victory of the German show jumpers. In the first important competition on Wednesday Ben Maher won and secured the prize of Europe. On the second day of the largest horse show in the world, the Briton prevailed with an explosion. Thanks to the fastest lap of the jump-off, the 36-year-old team Olympic champion of 2012 won ahead of Eduardo Alvarez Aznar from Spain with Rokfeller.

In third place came the living in Belgium Daniel Deußer. The 37-year-old Hesse remained with Tobago in the jump-off without dropping, but rode not fast enough to ensure a home win. "At first, of course, it's a shame," said Deußer, "but in retrospect, I'm happy with the horse."

The second-best German starter in the 100,000-euro test was Andre Thieme from Plau am See, who finished ninth with Aretino. The majority of the 14 German starters failed in the normal course. Among the disappointed were Ludger Beerbaum (Riesenbeck) with Casello and Felix Haßmann (Lienen) with Cayenne. Old-timer Beerbaum and the German champion did not finish the round and gave up.

The Italian Lucia Le Jeune Vizzini was lucky. Her stallion Filou threw off the rider and walked for almost a minute alone through the great Aachen stadium until he had calmed down again. The 43-year-old remained unhurt like the horse. The same thing happened to the US-American Laura Kraut in the jump-off with Fleurette.

Thieme had just missed the victory in the saddle of Cellisto in the first test of the second day of the tournament. The jumping won the Irishman Darragh Kenny with Cazador in front of the 44-year-old German. The day before Frenchman Olivier Robert and Brit Scott Brash had secured the first CHIO victories.

On Thursday, the Germans want to do better at the Nations Cup and win for the fourth time in a row. As in the previous year, the quartet includes Simone Blum (Zolling) and Marcus Ehning (Borken). Christian Ahlmann from Marl and Deußer, who lives in Belgium, are in the team for the first time since 2016. Replacement man is Maurice Tebbel.

For the German participants in the dressage, it is also about the starting places at the European Championships. Aachen is the second sighting after the German championship in Balve. Isabell Werth from Rheinberg, who heads the Nations Cup Quartet with Bella Rose, is sure to have her place in the EC Quartet.

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl from Tuntenhausen with Dalera, Helen Langehanenberg (Billerbeck) with Damsey and Dorothee Schneider (Framersheim) with Showtime also belong to the team in Aachen, which will compete for the first time on Thursday.

Hope for a place in the EM team is also Soenke Rothenberger. The Bad Homburger had to cancel because of a disease of his horse Cosmo at the German championship. In Aachen, Rothenberger rides in the framework program and can recommend himself with good performances for the European Championships in Rotterdam in August.

+++ 17.07.2019: CHIO: Deußer ranks third in the price of Europe +++

Ben Maher won the first important competition at the CHIO in Aachen on Wednesday. On the second day of the biggest horse show in the world, the professional from the UK beat the price of Europe with an explosion. Thanks to the fastest lap of the jump-off, the 36-year-old team Olympic champion 2012 won in front of Eduardo Alvarez Aznar from Spain with Rokfeller.

In third place came the living in Belgium Daniel Deußer with Tobago. The 37-year-old Hesse remained with Tobago in the jump-off without dropping, but rode not fast enough to ensure a home win. Olivier Robert secured his first victory at this year's CHIO in Aachen. The 43-year-old show jumper won the opening competition at the biggest horse show in the world on Tuesday. In the saddle of Vadrouille d'Avril, the Frenchman prevailed with the fastest ride before Laura Kraut from the USA with Berdenn. In third place came Marcus Ehning from Borken with Calanda. The second-best German starter was Gerrit Nieberg from Sendenhorst, who rode to seventh place with Quibelle de la Coeur.

Many top riders stayed behind on the first day of the tournament and rode rather practice rounds; like Daniel Deußer, who took the time error. "It's all about getting into the tournament," said Ehning. Which did not stop him from making a quick round at the start of the tournament.

Ehning was the most successful rider of the CHIO last year, winning the Nations Cup and the Grand Prix with the German team. "It's hard to beat that," said the 44-year-old from Borken: "I'll let the week come to me." For the heavy exams Ehning sets this year on Funky Fred. Pret A Tout is not ready to play in the biggest tournament in the world after a break.
