The Italian professional cyclist Alessandro De Marchi fell badly on the 12th stage of the Giro d’Italia. At the beginning of the 212-kilometer route from Siena to Bagno di Romagna, De Marchi, 35, fell and initially lay motionless on the ground. In the hospital, a fracture of the right collarbone as well as six fractures of the ribs and two fractures of the thoracic vertebra were diagnosed, according to De Marchi’s team Israel Start-Up Nation announced. A head injury could be ruled out. De Marchi had already worn the overall leader’s pink jersey during the current Giro.
