Daniel Frahn: Chemnitzer FC separates from captain
The football third division Chemnitzer FC has been separated from his captain Daniel Frahn. The club announced in a message on its website. The striker had in the away game on Saturday against Halleschen FC in the guest block sympathy to leading figures of the right-minded group "Kaotic Chemnitz" and the dissolved group "NS-Boys" "obviously flaunted," says the statement. Because of an injury Frahn was not a member of the squad, he had traveled to Halle as a spectator and watched the game in the stands.
"There is zero tolerance for this behavior," the deputy chairman of the shareholders' meeting of Chemnitz, Romy Polster, quoted. "We now know for sure that it was the wrong decision after his innocence-protestations to continue his trust in his own responsible action on 9.3.2019."
How Frahn should have expressed his sympathy for the groupings is not described in the message. On a SPIEGEL request the club did not answer until the afternoon. On his Facebook page, the club wrote that "Frahn" "before, during and after the game in Halle with leaders of the group 'Kaotic Chemnitz' has" stayed and together with them on and left ".
Frahn's consulting agency did not comment on her client's dismissal. One can not yet give an opinion, it said on a SPIEGEL inquiry. Apparently, the player and his advisor were surprised by the decision of the club.
Five months after the scandal about neo-Nazi commemoration
The separation of Frahn occurs about five months after the scandal of a funeral for a late right-wing extremist. Before a home game, the fans had thought in the stadium of the professed neo-Nazi Thomas Haller. Afterwards Frahn held up a jersey with the inscription "Support your local Hools" after a goal. The action had caused nationwide sensation and criticism.
Frahn had apologized in a Facebook post. "First and foremost, I would like to make it clear that I am NOT a neo-Nazi sympathizer!" He wrote. "Also, I DO NOT share this political attitude and do not carry right thoughts in me."
For upholstery Frahns regret is a "farce". "He could not and did not want to take responsibility as a player and team captain in the football club, because that requires more than just scoring goals and cheering: attitude," she is quoted on the club's website. "There is complete agreement that the Chemnitzer FC Fußball GmbH dissolves the contractual relationship with the player with immediate effect Daniel Frahn, for you is at Chemnitzer FC no more space."
