News : DEL2 – Losing Tölzer Lions – Sport
Olafr Schmidt is becoming more and more of the Tölzer Löwen playoff fright. The Canadian goalkeeper of the Ravensburg Towerstars fended off 44 shots by the lions on Monday evening and led his team to a 2-1 away win after extra time in the third game of the DEL2 playoff quarter-finals. For the strongly decimated Tölzer it was the second playoff defeat in a row in extra time, the second in the main round now has his back to the wall.
Ravensburg now leads 2-1 in the best-of-five series and can make the semi-finals perfect on Wednesday in the home stadium (7.30 p.m.). “Schmidt was incredible,” emphasized Löwen coach Kevin Gaudet, whose team had taken the lead in minute 18 thanks to captain Philipp Schlager’s goal. In the middle third, the Tölzer left some good opportunities, “usually it has to be 2-0 or 3-0,” complained Gaudet. Instead, John Henrion equalized in minute 48 and Joshua Samanski secured the Ravensburg victory (87th) in the second extra time, as Schmidt had previously prevented the decisive Löwen goal several times. “In the end we were just very tired,” explained Gaudet. From the lion’s point of view, that has to be changed by Wednesday.
