Dirk Nowitzki plays in the third edition of the charity event "Champions for Charity" on 21 July in Leverkusen against a team around Michael Schumacher's son Mick. The proceeds will benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Keep Fighting Initiative of the Schumacher family.

The "Nowitzki All Stars" as well as "Schumacher & Friends" have already received pledges from former football internationals Simon Rolfes and Stefan Kießling. In addition, other former and current top players from Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen are expected, such as Jens Nowotny, Ulf Kirsten or Hans Sarpei.
Ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald, artistic gymnast Fabian Hambüchen and Olympic weightlifting champion Matthias Steiner will also participate.
"I'm looking forward to returning to Germany in the summer and having a great football event with the fans and many athletes," said 40-year-old Nowitzki, who ended his career with NBA club Dallas Mavericks. "In basketball he has set absolute records, but at our charity football game threatens him again a defeat, because my team and I will be highly motivated," said the 20-year Formula 2 driver Mick Schumacher.
Schumacher's father was Formula One World Champion seven times. Since a skiing accident in December 2013, the motorsport icon has been shielded from the public eye.
