Eugene 2021 Athletics World Cup postponed by the Games
The Athletics World Cups scheduled in Oregon (USA) in 2021 will be disputed a year later, after the decision to delay the Tokyo Olympics due to the coronavirus, the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) reported on Monday.
In a statement, the World Athletics endorsed the delay to 2021 of the Games, a decision "that leaves athletes the time necessary to retrain and compete."
Working on the new World Cup
The World Athletics noted that it has already started working with the organizers of the Oregon World Cups "to find new dates in 2022."
To include the competition in the 2022 calendar, he ensures that is in talks to change two events planned that year: The Commonwealth Games, scheduled in Birmingham (United Kingdom) between July 18 and 31, and the European Athletics Championship, which was to be held in Munich (Germany) between August 11 and 21.
The Oregon World Cups were to be held in the city of Eugene between August 6 and 15, 2021, a date too close to the new one scheduled by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Tokyo Games, after being delayed because of the coronavirus as well.
The Games will be held between July 23 and August 8, 2021. The World Athletics has not yet deprogrammed the Paris Europeans, scheduled for the end of next August.
