The German men's hockey team moved into the semi-finals after winning the last group match at the European Championships in Antwerp. In the round of the last four teams, the team meets hosts and world champion Belgium. Two days after defeating defending champions Holland 2-3, the team of national coach Stefan Kermas beat Ireland 5-0 (2-0). The Dutch won their last group game 6-0 against Scotland and move in as a group winners in the semifinals.
"It was a tough game in the first part of the game, and in the end the 5-0 win sounds good, but it was not," said captain Tom Grambusch. Niklas Wellen (3rd minute) and Grambusch (8th) brought the German Hockey Federation (DHB) early on the road to victory. Malte Hellwig (55.), Florian Fuchs (60.) and Lukas Windfeder (60.) scored the further goals.
Only the European champion is sure to participate in the Olympics
The German hockey women are also on semi-final course. The team of national coach Xavier Reckinger reaches a draw in the last group match against Ireland on Wednesday (12.15 clock). In the prelude, the selection celebrated a victory over Belarus (13: 0), against England played Germany draw (1: 1). A defeat would probably mean the end.
