Football: US Palermo by forced descent into fourth Italian league

US Palermo will have to compete in the fourth Italian league next season. The national football association FIGC rejected the appeal of the Sicilian club against a pronounced descent into the Serie C in May and even aggravated the penalty. The former European Cup player was in the season finished third in the Serie B and should have actually participated in the promotion playoffs.

Palermo, which was first division with a year interruption from 2004 to 2017, are accused of various administrative offenses, including accounting frauds in two seasons.

Long-time club boss Maurizio Zamparini, who fired almost 40 coaches in his 15-year tenure, resigned in 2017. Even after Zamparinis resignation returned in the club no continuity. Between January 2016 and June 2019, the ex-club of Luca Toni, Edinson Cavani and Paulo Dybala dismissed 16 head coaches.

US Palermo is currently for sale. Interested parties can submit their applications from 20 to 23 July, reports the "Gazzetta dello Sport".
