Fortnite World Championship: Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf is the first World Champion

Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf is the winner in the individual competition of the first Fortnite World Championship. In New York, the 16-year-old American prevailed against 99 other players and secured the title. "Bugha" had won the first of six rounds in the competition and dominated the competition afterwards. Already before the final round his lead was theoretically recoverable.

For the success he was rewarded with a prize money of three million US dollars (2.7 million euros). More has not won before him a single player in a single video game competition. Other podium finishes went to US players: Harrison "Psalm" Chang finished second and Shane "EpikWhale" took third place.

Fortnite is a Battle Royale game. The goal is to survive as a player for as long as possible. The participants get points for good placings and elimination of opponents. In both singles and duo, six rounds are played in which players must collect as many points as possible. "Bugha" came to 59 points in the end. He had almost twice as many as "Psalm" (33) and "EpikWhale" (32). Best German player was Jan "Fwexy" Kaur in 31st place.

Europeans win duo competition

Already the day before the decision had fallen in the duo competition. The 17-year-old David "Aqua" W. from Austria had triumphed on the side of 16-year-old Emil "Nyhrox" Bergquist Pedersen from Norway. The duo also secured a prize of $ 3 million, but it has to divide.

In the otherwise North American dominated competition also went second place to the Europeans Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman from the UK and the Dutchman Dave "Rojo" Jong. As the best German Fabian "Derox" Real landed in eighth place with his partner Calum "Itemm" MacGillivray from Scotland. For this, the two got a joint prize money in the amount of 375,000 US dollars (337,000 euros).
