Granules debate - Uefa wants more research - Sport
In the debate about a possible end of artificial turf pitches with granules because of a microplastic ban, the European Football Union (Uefa) calls for further investigation. There is "currently insufficient evidence for the dangers of these substances to the environment". The EU Commission had made it clear that the general ban on artificial turf pitches is not being worked on, but a ban on granules is possible because of the environmentally damaging effects of microplastics. According to Uefa, there are 25,250 artificial turf pitches in 20 of the 28 EU states. It is unclear on how many places granules or other material is used.
