News : Hassan’s 10,000 European record in the cold and rain of Hengelo

Sifan Hassan continues to make history

She is one of the best runners and long distance runners of the moment. In Doha, now a year ago, he achieved an almost unprecedented double in 1,500 and 10,000, showing that it is as good in long distances as in shorter ones. Just a few weeks ago, she achieved a spectacular World Record of the hour beating the current world record holder for marathon Brigid Kosgei.

A gold mine

Sifan Hassan turns everything he touches into gold and this afternoon, in Hengelo, at the Meeting organized by Global Sports Communication, sought a new milestone in athletics history. Neither rain nor cold nor wind made the Dutch of Ethiopian origin give up seeking the world record of 10,000 meters on a soulless track in this Dutch town.

It should be noted that Sifan will compete next week in the Gdynia World Half Marathon, in Poland, the only international competition for teams that takes place in the ‘COVID era’ and that will undoubtedly be one of the favorites to the throne. In Hengelo has achieved the European Record held for 18 years by the British Paula Radcliffe, which curiously also achieved it on a rainy day (01.30.09). Sifan stopped the clock at 29.36.67. Yes, he has ‘scratched’ Radcliffe no more and no less than almost 25 seconds. The world record is still 29: 17.45 for the Ethiopian Almaz Ayana. We’ll see how long it lasts… There are already eight European outdoor records for Hassan.
