How does the mandatory use of masks affect running?
New measure that has been announced by the Minister of Health Salvador Illa and that at first glance may directly affect our sports routine, already sufficiently altered right now by the mandatory time slots in which we have had to adapt our outings. From this Thursday, May 21, The use of a mask in public spaces is compulsory in Spain for people over the age of six. The Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, has linked the decision to the risks that the de-escalation now entails. It is a "precautionary" measure, which corresponds to this new stage, said the Minister of Health.
Who has to wear a mask?
According to the order published by the BOE, as we have said, all those over the age of six when ‘transit’ through public space, but there are some exceptions:
- People who present some type of respiratory difficulty
- Activities that the development of masks is impossible to develop
- People for whom the use of a mask is contraindicated by medical prescription if duly justified
- Force majeure
When should I carry it and in what spaces?
We must wear the mask both indoors and outdoors as long as we cannot respect the mandatory two meters distance.
Should those who go cycling or running wear a mask?
According to the Efe Agency, sources from the Ministry of Health have indicated people who go out to exercise on a bike and those who run are exempt from the use of a mask if they do not want to wear it. Point C of Art.2 of the order that regulates the use establishes that it will not be obligatory in the “development of activities in which, by the very nature of these, the use of the mask is incompatible”. Cycling and running would be included in these activities.
