News : Kandie beats Kamworor in the Istanbul Half Marathon

Kandie crosses the finish line first

We were looking forward to seeing again a road event full of TOP athletes at the international level. From Valencia (and with the suspension of RAK) we did not witness a show of this caliber and the truth is that despite the heavy rain that has fallen on Istanbul, The Half Marathon has been exciting and has left us a beautiful duel between the current world record holder, the Kenyan Kibiwott Kandie, and his compatriot Geoffrey Kamworor. A race in which popular runners have also participated, who have hallucinated crossing in some sections with some of the best long distance runners on the planet.

The thing about the hares

The script of the test has been a bit strange, since the two hares have gone out to square the rhythms (of the World Record) from the beginning, but it is that at kilometer 2, when they did not take 10 minutes, they went alone . The leading group, formed by the Kandie, Kamworor, Kisa, Amdework and company, could not follow Ngueno and Barsoton, who opened more and more space. Only the Ugandan Kisa has tried. With the passage of the kilometers, Ngueno has been alone with more than 60 meters of advantage, but little by little they have been eating ground and logic has prevailed.

Ultimately Kandie, Kamworor and the Ethiopian albino Amdework were in the lead. But in the absence of a kilometer or so Kandie, who had just made history in Valencia, managed to open a small gap and ended up prevailing with a ‘discreet’ time of 59:37 against a Kamworor who was running for the first time after his accident in a great international test and crossed the finish line in 59:46. Third, Amdework with 59:48.
