News : Katir, Cheptegei …. Schedules, duels, television Diamond League in Rome
If we live in Gateshead and in Doha two meetings of the Diamond League to remember and of an excellent level, it does not seem that the event that will be held in Rome on June 10 will be short. Proper names of the highest pedigree, avalanche of world record holders, Olympic minimums at stake and, above all, those points and those succulent economic prizes that the organization puts into play. In some tests we are not short if we say that they can perfectly be Olympic finals for the participating athletes.
If we refer to Spanish athletics, names like Esther Guerrero (keep looking for the minimum at 1,500) or a Mohamed Katir who is undoubtedly the sensation of this 2021 will represent Spain. Also in the ‘milqui’ we will have Solange Pereira, of course.
We start with the analysis of each test.
Rodgers, down 10 ″
Starting with speed, in the men’s 100 we will have first-rate names. Without going any further, the American Michael Rodgers, who will be looking to drop 10 seconds for the first time this season. His rivals will be the South African Simbine (the only one who has dropped below the 10 ″ barrier this year, 9.99) or the British Ujah.
Asher-Smith vs Schippers
In the women’s 200 the British Dina Asher-Smith, world champion, will be the rival to beat. Credits 22.56 this season. Also attentive to the Dutch Schippers (21.63 personal brand) or the British Gobbin. In the men’s 400 the Colombian Zambrano (44.57 SB) and the athlete from Botswana Makwala (44.65 SB) are the favorites with the Italian Re, who this season has not yet dropped below 45 ″, will be on the prowl.
Esther and Solange to improve their brands
In the female ‘milqui’ it will be as we have commented Esther Guerrero in search of the Olympic minimum (she has a personal best of 4:08:24 this season in Ostrava). It should be remembered that the minimum is 4.04.20 to be in Tokyo (if you do not have to try to get closer to the maximum to enter for points). The other Spanish in the test will be Solange Pereira, who this year has run in 4.09.34. It will be a top race with the presence of the 10,000 world record holder (although it lasted two days) Sifan Hassan, the british Laura muir (4:01:54 from SB) or the Canadian Debues-Stafford, which accredits the best mark of the course (4:00:69). Also attentive to the Kenyan Kipyegon.
The 5,000, with Cheptegei, Katir or Ingebrigtsen
One of the highlights will be the 5,000 men’s, where one of the sensations of the season at the international level will be, the Spanish Mohamed Katir, who already has the minimum in his pocket in the 5k and in the ‘milqui’. Katir has 13:08:52 from SB and will face nothing more and nothing less than the world record holder Joshua Cheptegei (12.35.36 of PB), the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen (13:02:03 of PB) and up to five other athletes that have dropped from 13 minutes. Crazy.
We go to the obstacles. In the 100 women’s hurdles, the Puerto Rican Camacho-Quinn is the one who accredits the best mark this 2021 with 12.32. Watch out for the Bahamian Charlton with 12.61. In the men’s 110 hurdles we continue to miss the injured Orlando Ortega, but there will be his great rivals McLeod (13.08 SB), Belocian (13.34), Pozzi or Martinot-Lagarde.
In the women’s 400 hurdles special attention to the Dutch Femke Bol (54.33 SB), great favorite with the Ukrainian Ryzhykova (54.59) and the British Turner (54.77). In the 3,000 men’s hurdles race with the presence of the Moroccan El-Bakkali or the Kenyan Conseslus Kirputo, a priori the two great favorites to win. An eye also to the Frenchman Bedrani.
Leveling in male height
In the contests, on the album the Cuban Yaimé Pérez (68.99 PB) is the great favorite; in the pole vault TOP duel between the British Bradshaw (4.82), the Greek Stefanidi (4.80) and the Russian who will compete as neutral Sidorova (4.80). In the weight the Pole Haratyk (22.17) will face the New Zealander Walsh (22.00). In male height top-tier names. The Italian Tamberi will want to shine at home against Ivanyuk (the one with the best SB with 2.37), Barshim, Nedasekau or Protsenko.
Finally, in the female length the Virgin Islands athlete Chantel Malone is a clear favorite after leaving this season up to 7.08.
