The three-year-old gelding was doing well, but that quickly went wrong when he turned left and crashed through the inner guardrail, lifting Lafferty from the saddle before reportedly bumping into her. Unfortunately, Ronniejay’s injuries proved fatal. Racing Victoria published an update after the accident: “Laura Lafferty is conscious and can move all limbs. She was taken to Swan Hill Hospital for scans. Possible shoulder and hip injuries cannot be ruled out.” Any help came too late for Lafferty’s horse. It was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
