News : Ligue 1: AS Monaco wins the second leg against Paris Saint-Germain

AS Monaco continues its winning streak in French Ligue 1. The Monegasque under the former Bayern coach Niko Kovac won 2-0 (1-0) at champions Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and are thus still unbeaten for over two months. Monaco are fourth with 52 points, just two points behind PSG, who are third. OSC Lille (58) continues to lead the table after a 4-1 win at FC Lorient. Olympique Lyon (55), who already won 3-2 at Stade Brest on Friday, follows in second place.

Paris could not build on the 4: 1- (1: 1) gala against Barcelona in the Champions League last Tuesday. The tactically well-adjusted team of Kovac had superstar Kylian Mbappé well under control and repeatedly put the hosts under pressure with dangerous counterattacks. Sofiane Diop (6th) and Guillermo Maripan (51st) met for the guests. Kevin Volland, who was in the starting line-up, helped prepare the 1-0. Paris still had to do without the injured Neymar.

Despite the winning streak, Kovac doesn’t want to know anything about the title fight and gave the season goal of the European Cup. “No, nothing changes, even if it’s a valid question,” said the 49-year-old. Kovac sees his team on the »right path, I am very satisfied and very happy with our current situation. But we are not yet at the level of LOSC and Lyon, ”said Kovac, referring to leaders Lille and second Lyon.

Monaco has been unbeaten in eleven league games, and the team also won the first leg against the French champions.

In Ligue 1, the title winner and the runner-up move straight into the group stage of the Champions League. The third in the table takes part in the elimination games for the premier class. The fourth best team starts in the Europa League. The second leg of the Champions League round of 16 between PSG and Barcelona will take place on March 10th.
