London changes its format and maintains the Kipchoge-Bekele duel
The one that announced the organization of the Virgin Money London Marathon, which has decided to completely change the format of its marathon so as not to suspend the race. For starters, an open secret practically confirmed: only elite athletes will compete in the event. The more than 40,000 amateur runners who usually meet on the streets of the British capital will have to wait (at least) until 2021 to participate.
Multiturn test among the best in the world
It was something that was already brewing because of the situation derived from the coronavirus crisis and that is affecting and will affect other great races (we will see what ends up happening with Valencia). The fact is that it has been decided do a test of several laps on a much shorter circuit than usual at Saint James’s Park in the capital. Another great novelty is that the times will be valid for the qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
Some of the best marathoners in the world would participate in it (Bekele and Kipchoge were going to face each other and they were confirmed for the initial date and the organization has confirmed the presence of both). It will undoubtedly be the great incentive for a test that has been tried to play normally until the end. The 'recordwoman' Brigid Kosgei will also participate.
London Marathon race organizers announce there will be a race on Oct. 4 for elites in St James’s Park.
