London modifies its date of 2021 and compensates registrants for 2020
What a Valencian firecracker had prepared the organization of the Virgin Money London Marathon, which announced this Thursday that it radically changes its format in order to guarantee the celebration of the marathon this year 2020. It already officially rules out the participation of the popular (normally more than 40,000 athletes meet in the streets of the British capital) and modifies its circuit also to the maximum to be able to comply with the safety regulations derived from the coronavirus crisis. So much so that the route will take place around Saint James’s Park, one of the best known in the London city, on a circuit that will take several laps and will be approximately two kilometers long.
At last that Kipchoge-Bekele
What will make the event really attractive will be the confirmation of the presence of the two best marathoners of the moment, Kenenisa Bekele and Eliud Kipchoge, who will finally duel after starring in spectacular moments last year (each on their own). If nothing changes we will see them run and face each other again in the Tokyo Games marathon, which will be held in Sapporo.
Another novelty that the organization added in its statement is that it also changes the date for the marathon next year 2021, which it goes from its usual dispute in April to October 3 to "have more options to be able to contest the popular race for next year". In addition, the organization confirms that a virtual race will be held next to the elite test on October 4 for those registered, who will be awarded a 'finisher' medal and a commemorative 'New Balance' shirt, in addition to maintaining registration for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 tests. Not bad at all.
