Joachim Löw gives up his position as national coach after the EM in the summer. The 61-year-old will end his contract, which originally ran until the 2022 World Cup, immediately upon completion of the tournament at his own request, the German Football Association announced on Tuesday. The question now arises: Who will be Jogi Löw’s successor? Who will take over the office of national coach from summer 2021? Speculations on the future DFB-Trainers are already numerous. But are the following candidates actually an option for the DFB? We present the possible Löw successors in more detail.

Jogi Löw resigns after EM: Will Jürgen Klopp be his successor?

For several months there has been a lot of speculation about a possible successor to Löw. A number of high-profile names have already been associated with the DFB. One who was mentioned again and again is Jürgen Klopp. The former BVB coach and current Liverpool coach is in crisis with his Reds. Actually a good opportunity to devote yourself to new tasks. Or? During his time with Liverpool FC Jürgen Klopp has actually achieved all of the Reds’ goals with the longed-for championship and winning the Champions League. So it’s time for a new challenge. The only catch: Klopp is still bound in Liverpool until 2024 and probably still too happy to be a club coach.

Looking for a new DFB coach after Löw’s resignation: Hansi Flick is considered the desired successor

Also Bayern coach Hansi Flick should have long been the focus of the DFB bosses. After all, he was once Löw’s assistant for the 2014 World Cup and not only played a decisive role in practicing the all-important standards. As a sextuple coach at FC Bayern, Flick can look back on an astonishing record. No wonder that Flick should be at the top of the wish list at the DFB. However, it is currently considered unlikely that Flick will leave Bayern as soon as possible.

New national coach wanted! Ralf Rangnick would have time

Also Ralf Rangnick rumor has it that it could be one of the DFB’s preferred candidates. The 62-year-old is currently without a job and highly recognized as a specialist in the industry. Rangnick has shown his interest in the post of national coach several times. In the Sportschau Club on ARD he recently said: “I would like to take on another great, great job […].

Mehmet Scholl proposes Lothar Matthäus as a successor for national coaching post

Also the former German soccer player and coach Lothar Matthäus has already been proposed for the office of national coach. Just recently, Mehmet Scholl surprisingly broke a lance for Lothar Matthäus. “Yes, Lothar. You can always hear it on TV and he’s always right with what he says,” insisted Scholl. “And he’s a great coach,” he added, “from what I’ve heard from his former players.” Matthew has a great mentality, over 150 international matches and knows everything about football. But does Matthäus really want to go to the DFB?

On the other hand, a promotion of Löw’s assistant coach Marcus Sorg is very unlikely. It remains to be seen which coach the DFB will ultimately choose.
