News : Major League Baseball: Texas Rangers play for the first time in front of 40,000 spectators
For the first time after the lockdown more than a year ago, a game in professional sport took place in front of full spectators in the USA. The Texas Rangers baseball team, based between Dallas and Fort Worth, welcomed the Toronto Blue Jays to the start of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season in front of 40,518 spectators at Globe Life Field.
The US states themselves decide on opening steps, Texas had already lifted restrictions in this regard at the beginning of March. More than 114 million vaccine doses have been administered in the United States, more than any other country.
Fans had to wear a mask in the stadium, although that is only voluntary in Texas. Plexiglass panes were also installed in the lower rows to provide additional protection for the baseball players.
After the start of the season, there will also be areas in the stadium for other games in which fewer seats are occupied and accordingly more distance between the fans.
US President Joe Biden and the US Disease Agency CDC had warned of the event for fear that it could lead to a super-spreader event.
