News : Maradona’s personal doctor faces up to 25 years in prison
Less than six months after Diego Maradona’s death, public prosecutors have brought charges of willful murder against the team of doctors and nurses of the Argentine football legend. Maradona’s personal physician Leopoldo Luque, his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and several nurses face between eight and 25 years imprisonment if convicted, as reported by the newspaper »La Nación« and the television station TN, citing judicial circles. The seven defendants are therefore not allowed to leave the country and should make their statements from the end of May to mid-June.
Maradona died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 in a private residential complex north of Buenos Aires. He had been released from the hospital two weeks earlier, where he had undergone brain surgery. A medical expert commission had recently accused the doctors and nurses of serious errors.
“Although the medical professionals were aware of the patient’s poor health, they took actions that were contrary to standard practice and did not take any necessary action. That made Maradona’s condition worse and put him in a helpless situation, “the broadcaster TN quoted from a document from the public prosecutor’s office.
