MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso crashes hard at Silverstone

At the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso crashed. In the first corner after the start, the Italian from the Ducati team collided with the slipped Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) motorcycle, was thrown into the air and hit the track while his machine caught fire and slid into the track. Both drivers were supplied by route helpers. Quartararo gave the all-clear, Doviziosos condition was initially unclear.

The runner-up was temporarily independent, but seemed confused. With a stretcher he was first taken to the paddock for medical care and from there to the hospital. In addition to severe pain in the hip, the 33-year-old complained of memory loss. His team confirmed that Dovizioso has no memories of the accident.

No bone fractures were detected in the hospital. A few hours after the crash, his team announced that Dovizioso had suffered no further damage and could leave the clinic.

For Doviziosos fight for the world title the accident is a preliminary decision. World Champion Marc Márquez (Honda) was overtaken on the final corner by Álex Rins (Suzuki), but was able to increase his lead in the championship to 78 points with second place. Even with three failures without a point win, he would still World Cup leader before Dovizioso (172 points) and Rins (149). There will be seven races left until the end of the season and the next will take place on September 15th in San Marino (Stream: Dazn).
