Because of Corona: Grand Prix in Austin and Rio Hondo postponed

Because of the corona pandemic, the world motorcycle association FIM and the MotoGP rights holder Dorna have adjusted the calendar for the 2021 motorcycle world championship season. The organizers announced that the overseas races in Austin (USA) and Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina) will be postponed indefinitely.

The gap will be closed by a second race in Losail in Qatar (April 4) and an additional Grand Prix event in Portimao in Portugal (April 18). The MotoGP calendar therefore still consists of 19 confirmed race weekends. The season starts on March 28th in Qatar and is slated to end on November 14th in Valencia.

Should the corona situation improve, Austin or Termas de Rio Honda could return to the calendar. The FIM has stipulated that a maximum of 20 races will be held this year.

Bradl again replaces Marquez at the start of the MotoGP season

Stefan Bradl will replace eight-time motorcycle world champion Marc Marquez again at least in the first two races of the MotoGP season. “Marc Márquez’s upper arm injury has still not completely healed. It was decided on Sunday that he would have to pause the first two races in Qatar and that I could replace him,” said the 31-year-old Zahlinger on the Austrian broadcaster ServusTV.

The Honda racing team had previously announced that the 28-year-old Spaniard was not yet fit enough. The earliest start for him would be on April 18 at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimão. So Bradl will start for him next Sunday and a week later in Doha. He had already done a few tests.

Marquez had seriously injured his right upper arm in a fall in the first race last season and missed the rest of the World Cup. In December, he underwent a bone transplant. Bradl had stood in for him in eleven Grand Prix races. The German achieved his best result with seventh place at the season finale in Portimão.
