Oumaiz, Spain's record of 5k and one second from Europe's
The Nerja Ouassim Oumaiz established this Sunday in Nijmegen (Netherlands) a new record for Spain of 5 km en route by winning the Siete Colinas race with a time of 13:19, just a second from the European record. Oumaiz, trained by Antonio Serrano, prevailed in the Dutch race ahead of the locals Mike Foppen (13:31) and Noah Schutte (13:35).
The previous Spanish record of the test was shared, with a time of 13:47, Chema Martínez, who did it in Manchester in 2009, and Juan Antonio “Chiqui” Pérez, who equaled it last year in Laredo. The European record for the 5K belongs to the French Jimmy Gressier, who set it this year at 13:18.

It should be remembered that Ouassim already recently took the 5,000 disputed a few days ago in his native Nerja on the return of official athletics ahead of Fernando Carro in a spectacular final and comes to demonstrate that he is one of the future references of international athletics with such only 21 years old. A few months ago his signing was confirmed by the ‘NN Running Team’, the team for which Kipchoge or Bekele run and whom he will represent in major international competitions. Alfredo Varona discovered it for us a while back.
