Pinot wins Tourmalet - Buchmann becomes fourth - Sport
The Frenchman prevails on the Pyrenees stage, also Emanuel Buchmann from Ravensburg achieved a front ranking. Geraint Thomas loses time in the fight for the yellow jersey.
The French professional cyclist Thibaut Pinot has won the 14th stage of the 106th Tour de France in the Pyrenees. The 29-year-old from the Groupama-FDJ team won on Saturday after 117.5 kilometers from Tarbes to the legendary Col du Tourmalet with six seconds ahead of his compatriot Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step), who thus the yellow jersey in the toughest test so far successfully defended in the high mountains.
The Ravensburger Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe) convinced in fourth (+0: 08 minutes) and moved up to fifth place in the overall standings. Defending champion Geraint Thomas (Great Britain / Ineos) had to tear down in the last kilometer and lost half a minute on Alaphilippe. In the overall standings Thomas is second with 2:02 minutes behind. The Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk is in third place, 2:14 minutes behind. Buchmann follows in 3:12 minutes back to fifth place.
On Sunday, the climb continues in the Pyrenees. On the 185.5 kilometers from Limoux to Foix Prat d'Albis the cyclists have to overcome three mountains of the first category. The last climb, at 11.8 kilometers and an increase of 6.8 percent, is again impressive.
