Rory McIlroy collects $ 15 million in Atlanta

Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy won the jackpot of $ 15 million at the FedExCup final in Atlanta. At the East Lake Golf Club in Georgia, after four laps, the Northern Irishman defeated US American Xander Schauffele by four shots, securing the highest prize money ever given to a single athlete.
As leader Brooks Koepka (USA) had tackled the final round, the world number one fell back with a 72 but still divided on the third place. German golfers had not been able to qualify for the playoff tournament of the best 125 players on the US tour.
For McIlroy it was after 2016, the second triumph in the million-dollar tournament series. In front of the 30-year-old world ranking third, only US superstar Tiger Woods (2007 and 2009) had managed to win the FedExCup twice.
The tournament was burdened by a lightning strike in which six people were injured on Saturday. The players had been taken to safety because of the thunderstorm shortly before. Two spectators had to be hospitalized, but their condition was not threatening, the PGA tour said.
