Rugby: Israel Folau fails crowdfunding after homophobic comments

The Australian rugby star Israel Folau has failed with a donation action on the Internet against his dismissal for the insult of homosexuals. The website owners GoFundMe declared the crowdfunding action over on Monday because they believe it violates these terms and conditions. The company would not tolerate if others were discriminated against. The already collected money of more than 750 000 Australian dollars (about 460 000 euros) will now be repaid to the donors.

Folau actually wanted to raise two million dollars to legally challenge his dismissal by Australia's Rugby Association RA (Rugby Australia). The association had dissolved a million-dollar four-year contract with the 30-year-old, because he had agitated in social networks against homosexuals.

Among other things, the devout Christian claimed that hell is waiting for homosexuals. "Repent, only Jesus can save you," wrote Folau on Instagram.

With the termination of the contract, the career of the 73-time national player, who has received three times the John Eales Medal for the best Australian player, has practically ended.
