Sandro Wagner on China change: "Bank account is important, I think"
Sandro Wagner changed last January from his heart club FC Bayern to Chinese club Tianjin Teda. In 18 league games, the center forward has so far scored five goals for his new club.
Wagner: Playing football is a profession
In an interview with "transfermarkt.de" the 31-year-old now speaks surprisingly honestly about the reasons for the change. "Ultimately, in addition to the fun and the sporting successes, the bank account is important in a career, I think." After all, football is our profession, "says Wagner.
Tianjin Teda will pay the former national player over two years 15 million euro salary, reported the "Bild" newspaper in January. For this, Wagner immediately took on a leading role in his new team: "The Chinese already want you to take over and lead the league, which I enjoy doing and it's also up to me to take a team along."
Wagner: Change from China back to Europe is possible
For a possible change back to Europe, the striker leaves a backdoor open. The level in China is "not so low at all that you can not easily return to Europe," says Wagner - and mentions Dortmund's strategist Axel Witsel as an example. The Belgian changed last summer from Tianjin Tianhai to BVB and was there immediately to the service provider.
