News : Sifan Hassan will not attempt the 10,000 World Record in Brussels

The Dutch Sifan Hassan will not attack the 10,000 World Record at the Diamond League’s Van Damme Memorial in Brussels. The Ethiopian-born athlete had initially considered trying to break that mark of 29:01:03 set by Letesenbet Gidey at the Ethiopian Nationals in the Netherlands a couple of months ago. Interestingly, Gidey snatched the world record from Hassan that he had achieved on that same track just two days earlier (29:06:82). The joy did not last 48 hours for the triple Olympic medalist in Tokyo (gold in 5,000 and 10,000 and bronze in 1,500).
For the mile, where is ‘recordwoman’
The fact is that Hassan, who has been competing at a very high level for a long time, has finally decided not to go for that world record and register in the mile of that Memorial Van Damme, the last meeting of the Diamond League 2021 before the grand final in Zurich which will be held on September 8-9 in the Swiss city.
It should be remembered that Sifan already holds the World Record for the mile, which he achieved at the Louis II stadium in Monaco in 2019 (4:12:33), so who knows, he could try to go for his own record in Brussels . Capable, no doubt, it is.
