It's not just about medals - Tokyo 2020 calls

The claim of German athletes is modest. "The athletes should leave the World Cup in South Korea as the cornerstone for a successful Olympic qualification," said the German sports director Thomas Kurschilgen very reserved. The pleasing European Championships in Glasgow a year ago, when there were eight pool medals alone, are no yardstick for the showdown with the Who's Who in swimming.

It is above all other nations, such as the USA, Australia or China, who will lead the mediallenspiegel. But it's not just about the precious metal. The German team wants to secure starting places for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2020. Up to the Olympic Games in 2024, the DSV wants to have a more powerful athletic again. The goal of being back in the lead by 2020 has long since been rejected. "We want to get the most out of the Olympics," said Kurschilgen, who has been in office since September.
