Swimming World Cup 2019 in Gwangju: All results at a glance

+++ 16.07.2019: German swimmers want to take World Cup momentum through Wellbrock +++

After the gold medal by Florian Wellbrock hopes the German Swimming Association at the World Cup in South Korea on Wednesday on more top performances. Leonie Beck and Finnia Wunram want in the open water race over five kilometers, the momentum of the solved Olympics-Ticket and Wellbrock win take away. The water jumpers Patrick Hausding and Martin Wolfram are fighting for the three-meter board for an Olympic starting grid. The water polo hit after the 9: 9 against Japan to win against Brazil.

+++ 16.07.2019: Kurjo and Rüdiger finish World Cup team jumping in eighth place +++

As expected, the water jumpers Maria Kurjo and Lars Rüdiger could not intervene in the fight for the World Championship medals. The Berlin duo finished on Tuesday in the competition of three-meter board and tower with 324.50 points the eighth place. Around 33 counters were missing on the USA and bronze. At the European Championships a year ago Kurjo had surprisingly won silver with Lou Massenberg. This time she beat up with club colleague Rüdiger honorable.

The victory in this non-Olympic discipline at the swimming World Cup in Gwangju went to China with 416.5 points. It was the eighth gold in the eighth jump competition of these title fights for China. Silver went to Russia.

Team jumping involves one woman and one man per nation. You must show each of the six jump groups such as Auerbach or Dolphin. Each player must compete at least once from the three-meter board and from the tower.

Previously Kurjo and Christina Wassen were eliminated in the diving in the semifinals and had missed a premature Olympic ticket. This Wednesday, record European champion Patrick Hausding and Martin Wolfram will play in South Korea for the first time. A final place in the art jumping of the three-meter board secures an Olympic starting position.

+++ 16.07.2019: Britta Steffen after Wellbrock-Gold: "Fantastic performance" +++

Double Olympic champion Britta Steffen hopes after the world title of Florian Wellbrock on further successes for the German team at the swimming World Cup in South Korea. "I am happy that the hard work pays off for the open water swimmers so the tingling may last week and bring some nice surprises", said the 35-year-old of the German Press Agency.

Wellbrock had ensured his victory in the open water race over ten kilometers for the first World Cup gold medal of the German Swimming Association for four years. "Fantastic performance, I am so happy that the beginning is so golden, keep it up!", Said Steffen.

The Beijing double Olympic champion ended her career six years ago. The mother of a son is active in many ways, among other things, she completes a non-medical practitioner training, gives lectures or moderates events. Even before the World Cup, she had pointed out the importance of success in the title fights.

"It takes success to regain some attention, but if it weighs on the shoulders of three people, it complains enormously, so I try not to put pressure on people," Steffen said. "If people do not perform at big competitions, it's going to change the mood from day to day," said the 2009 Double World Champion, recalling past championship bouts. That could be different in Gwangju.

+++ 16.07.2019: Open Water World Record Champion Lurz: Wellbrock Can Bring Olympic Gold +++

Open water world record champion Thomas Lurz trusts Florian Wellbrock after World Cup gold and the Olympic gold medal in one year. "He is a great swimmer and has every opportunity to win gold in Tokyo, I hope he stays healthy and can train well for a year," said the 39-year-old German press agency. The twelve-time world champion, who is not in South Korea on site, sees the 21-year-old Magdeburg a dazzling perspective.

"In any case, he can tear a lot in the future, it is very important for the association to have such a great swimmer," said Lurz, two-time medalist at the Olympics. "Starting both in the open water and in the pool is certainly not easy, but there have already been examples of how it can work." Wellbrock was the first German to win the title over the Olympic ten kilometers since the fall of 2009.

After the first World Cup gold for the German Swimming Federation after four years, others in the DSV team in Gwangju can benefit as well. "Of course, such a success can give the team in South Korea a boost," said Lurz.

+++ 16.07.2019: Turmspringerinnen Kurjo and Wassen out of the World Cup fight for Olympics +++

The jumpers Maria Kurjo and Christina Wassen have no chance at the swimming World Cup on an Olympic ticket. Due to their semi-final on Tuesday they can not secure at least in the title fights in South Korean Gwangju the quota place. Wassen finished in 14th place in the semifinals from ten meters high with 298.90 points, Kurjo finished this competition in 16th with 295.55 points. For the starting right for Tokyo, the two would have to qualify in the semifinals for the finals of the best twelve.

As in the synchronous jumping disciplines, the German Swimming Association must also place its hopes in the tower for the World Cup in the coming year. "I had flirted here with a quota place," said Wassersprung national coach Lutz Buschkow. He was not expecting a premature Olympic ticket anyway in the synchronized jump disciplines, where only the medalists can plan with Tokyo.

On this Wednesday (3.00 clock / CEST) Patrick Hausding wants to secure the three-meter board the first Olympic place of the jumpers in South Korea. Besides him, Martin Wolfram is also aiming for a good result. After several shoulder injuries, the Dresdner now jumps from the three-meter board and not as twice at the Olympic Games from the tower.

+++ 16.07.2019: First gold and bronze for Germany +++

World Cup champion Florian Wellbrock jubilantly pulled both arms up and fell friend and bronze winner Rob Muffels exhausted but happy around the neck. After the first gold medal for the German open water swimmers over ten kilometers since the victory of Idol Thomas Lurz ten years ago, his brother, national coach Stefan Lurz, cheered on a "huge day". And for the first time there were also two medals in this discipline. If Supertalent Wellbrock continues, he too can shape an era. Wellbrock had won in series this season in open water and was his favorite role impressive. "I'll ask myself how long that will last," he said. "At some point this stroke of luck must be over, but I trained incredibly hard."

He was not only happy about his own triumph, but also about Muffels' third place. "He is my training partner and one of my best friends," he said after the first two medals for the German Swimming Association on the fifth day of the title fights of South Korea. In the days before gold and bronze, the two Magdeburgers had motivated each other, even with spells.

"That gives you a bit of a kick - of course in a positive way," said Wellbrock smiling. He and roommate Muffels had hung - as an additional incentive - a Tokyo flag with the Olympic rings. It worked: Wellbrock and Muffels booked their Olympic ticket through their top ten places.

"Medal - that's great," said the 24-year-old Muffels euphorically: "The goal was Olympia Gold and bronze - absolute dream." Team boss Bernd Berkhahn described Muffels' appearance as "fantastic". Because also Finnia Wunram and Leonie Beck had made the qualification two days earlier, for the first time four German open water swimmers can look forward to the summer games.

"This is really a historic day for all of us," said Stefan Lurz, who had previously described the four grid positions as his "dream of desire". After the disappointing World Cup in Hungary two years ago, when the German Open Water Aces first went home without a World Cup medal since 1994, when only 25 kilometers were swum in open water, success is particularly important.

Before finishing in 1: 47: 55.9, Wellbrock had a head-to-head race with silver winner Marc-Antoine Olivier. For the final of a gripping final spurt Wellbrock struck just 0.2 seconds in front of the Frenchman. "I wanted to start with my right hand, then my left hand, but I saw it was enough," said Wellbrock.

The open water mission has fulfilled the youngster. Switch off one day, it says now, then Wellbrock wants to tackle the next goals. Also in the pool he is the great German hope in Gwangju. The European champion over 1,500 meters wants to attack in this race and over 800 meters. How a world title feels, he already knows.

+++ 16.07.2019: Turmpringerinnen Maria Kurjo and Christina Wassen fight for the Olympic starting place +++

The jumpers Maria Kurjo and Christina Wassen continue to fight for an Olympic starting place at the swimming world championship in Gwangju. Wassen finished in 14th place in the preliminary fight from ten meters high with 298.8 points, Kurjo finished this competition in 16th with 285.45 points. For the start right for Tokyo, the two in the semifinals of the best 18 athletes on Tuesday (8.30 clock / CEST) increase. Only the twelve finalists qualify for the summer games.

+++ 15.07.2019: Diver Barthel and Massenberg World Championships Tenth of the Tower +++

As expected, the water jumpers Timo Barthel and Lou Massenberg were unable to intervene in the fight for the top positions in the synchronous competition from the tower. The duo from Dresden and Berlin finished tenth in the final on Monday in Gwangju with 368.25 points and was about 57 points behind the bronze medal winners from Great Britain. Gold were secured by Cao Yuan and Chen Aisen, making it their seventh victory in the seventh league competition in South Korea for China. Silver went to Russia. The three best-placed couples also secured their tickets for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Earlier in the day, Tina Punzel and Lena Hentschel were eliminated from the three-meter board in the preliminary fight in synchronized jumping.

With 8: 8 it went into the last quarter, in which Japan led first, before Real had his big performance. Brazil must now be a success. After the disappointing finish of Tina Punzel and Lena Hentschel in the synchronized jumping of the three-meter board had water jump coach Lutz Buschkow a little later reason to rejoice. "The boys got what they could and that's a nice thing," he said.

The athletes themselves rated this World Cup exam as well. "We are very satisfied for our first competition and I was not nervous now because we did not really have any pressure," said 23-year-old Barthel. +++ 07/15/2019: World Cup disappointment: Women's jumper retire in the preliminary fight +++

The German sprinters Tina Punzel and Lena Hentschel have to digest a World Cup disappointment. About four points were missing on Monday in Gwangju for the final of the top twelve teams.

Punzel had already suffered a World Championship defeat on Sunday, when she and Christina Wassen had to take the last place in the final of the synchronized competition from the tower. In both disciplines, the German jumpers had no chance of a medal rank and thus on a premature Olympic ticket been granted.

"We are disappointed accordingly," said Punzel. The 18-year-old Hentschel wanted to donate a "big hug" to the 23-year-old team-mate. Of course we are nervous, but we can not say exactly what did not vote, "said Hentschel.

The duo from Berlin took sixth place on Saturday at the swimming World Cup in South Korea in Vorkampf. With 376.44 points the European Championship thirds were just under two points behind third place, which would bring in the final on the same day an Olympic starting position.

Our plan was to somehow manage the top 6. If we can do that again, we'll be super satisfied, "said Hausding, who was a bit irritated by the low scores for all couples. But the German art-jumper duo did not let that worry much, as did the clear pre-fight winners Cao Yuan and Xie Siyi from China.

+++ 13.07.2019: World Cup debutant Frach at the first swimming decision on 18th place +++

The open water swimmers Niklas Frach and Sören Meißner have not been able to intervene in the first decision of the World Championships in South Korea as expected in the medal fight. Over five kilometers, the 21-year-old World Cup debutant Frach took a decent 18th place on Saturday in Yeosu. The 29-year-old Meißner finished 23rd in the victory of the Hungarian European Champion Kristóf Rasovszky in 53: 22,1 minutes.

For a long time, the race stayed in the harbor basin of the 2012 World Exhibition Center. In the final phase favorite Rasovszky but then settles. Silver went to the Frenchman Logan Fontaine with about ten seconds behind, the Canadian Eric Hedlin took bronze. To spare for the more important ten-kilometer race on Tuesday, which is about the Olympic qualification, many top open water swimmers decided not to start over the non-Olympic distance. That took advantage of Rasovszky, who also wants to go back on Tuesday.

+++ 12.07.2019: Water springer Hausding after "Nervenkampf" in the one-meter final +++

Water sprinter Patrick Hausding has reached the final of the one-meter board at the swimming World Championships after a nerve-racking preliminary fight. His 22-year-old team-mate Frithjof Seidel collected his 34th World Cup experience and missed the final on Sunday. The first preliminary fight of the title fights won the Chinese Wang Zongyuan with 429.40 points.

"It was a pretty nerve-wracking, so having an unfortunate season like mine so far will make you more and more nervous," Hausding said. But the 30-year-old played out his routine and fought his way forward with the three and a halffold somersault in the third of six rounds "back in the race". No one wishes for twelfth place before the last round, "said Hausding, who starts in South Korea in singles and in synchronized jumping from the three-meter board.

"We made it extra so that he takes the one-meter competition to jump in," said coach Lutz Buschkow. Hausding has been through a difficult season so far due to injury, and he was slowed by a middle ear infection shortly before the World Cup. "He can take a mental strength," Buschkow said after the preliminary fight.

+++ 12.07.2019: World Cup hopefuls Wellbrock: Open water swimming makes "harder" +++

The German swimming hopes Florian Wellbrock is not worried about the Olymia qualification in open water at the World Cup. He does not believe "that the Olympic qualification in open water swimming, for which I am in the top ten swim must be such a big hurdle, "said the 21-year-old in an interview with the" Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung "(Friday)." That's not my claim. I want to get a medal. "

European champion Wellbrock wants to start at the World Championships in South Korea initially over ten kilometers in the open water in Yeosu and then swim in the pool races over 800 and 1,500 meters.

Asked whether free-water swimmers are a special swimmer, Wellbrock said: "I would say they are looser." For open-water swimming, the tension before take-off is not so high, because until it really matters, you have one more hour Time." For example, Dutch Olympic champion Ferry Weertman "for a while always jumped in with a bombshell and I'm waiting for the day when a 1,500 meter swimmer jumps into the water with an ass bomb." Nobody can afford that. "

Wellbrock would recommend any long-distance swimmer in the pool to try open water swimming. "I would say that you get harder with open water swimming."

Swimming ten kilometers is a mental challenge, said the Magdeburger Wellbrock. For him, especially the last 100 meters made the open water swimming. You can not compare that to the pain you have in the pelvis, I do not want to say that the open water is more exhausting, but it's a different kind of pain Feeling is already helpful for pelvic swimming. "

+++ 07/11/2019: Free water national coach Lurz before the World Cup: "powerful force" +++

Open water national coach Stefan Lurz starts gladly in the swimming world championship in South Korea. "I am positive that we bring a very powerful force at the start," said the brother of the twelve-time world champion Thomas Lurz of the German Press Agency. The latest results have been "very positive".

At the races in Yeosu, he and his team want to forget the messed-up World Championships two years ago in Budapest. After the title fights in Hungary, which ended without medals for the previously successful German open water swimmers, "we had to sit down and talk about a few things," said Lurz. "Since then it has been more successful again." His team is making "a reputation and a name again."

After the failures in 2017 Lurz also questioned himself. "After consultation, it was relatively clear that we are jointly trying to overcome the dry spell," he said. The open water swimmers start on Saturday (1:00 CEST) with the race over five kilometers of men in the World Cup. Sören Meißner and Niklas Frach want to swim for Germany.

+++ 11.07.2019: Ex-swimmer Biedermann on world title 2009: Even grandma gave interviews +++

+++ 11.07.2019: Wasserspringer Hausding lobt Bedingungen vor WM-Start +++

Juli. Der DSV ist mit über 60 Sportlern vertreten.

+++ 10.07.2019: Wasserspringer Hausding: Für WM-Medaille "muss schon vieles passen" +++

August in Kiew an.

+++ 04.07.2019: Ex-Bundestrainer Lambertz kritisiert Nachfolger im Schwimm-Verband +++

+++ 30.06.2019: Deutsche WM-Starter bei Freiwasser-Meisterschaften in guter Form +++

Juli in Gwangju/Südkorea statt.

August in Kiew an.
