Esther Guerrero has completed his fantastic summer in a wonderful way achieving a personal best in 800 of the Doha Meeting of the Diamond League, the last stop of this very atypical edition of 2020.

The Spanish Esther Guerrero qualified this Friday second in the Arab country, where finished under two minutes and was only surpassed by the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, which achieved the best world record of the season.

Pulling bravely

The athlete from Banyoles, who arrived at the head of the group in the middle of the second round, when the hare – Kenyan Emily Cherotich Tuei – left the track, signed a brilliant 1: 59.22, his personal best, to finish behind Kipyegon, winner in 1: 57.68, best record of the year.

The Kenyan improved the 1: 58.10 that the Norwegian Hedda Hynne scored in Bellinzona on September 15. British Adelle Tracey completed the podium, third in 1: 59.87.

Guerrero is the third Spanish in history to fall below two minutes. It was 13 years since a Spanish woman lowered that record of this mythical barrier. The last one was Mayte Martínez in 2007 (1: 57.62 in Osaka). The first, Maite Zúñiga in 1988 with 1: 57.45.
