This will be the first great race in Barcelona
Although we have spent months and months seeing how our favorite races have been canceled one after another (including some as emblematic as the Marató de Barcelona or the Rock'n Roll Maratón de Madrid) the organization of popular events wants to keep the flame of hope even having to respect the enormous string of restrictions and preventions against a coronavirus that is still very latent in our day to day and hitting us harshly.
The 42nd edition of the Cursa de la Mercè continues to stand for this coming September (It will be played for two days, the 19 and the 20) and has already announced how it will be carried out. Obviously it will be a totally new format. People will have the option of doing it in person and virtually and the cost of five euros will go entirely to the TV3 Marathon, which this year will focus on the investigation of COVID-19.
Two laps of five kilometers
The distance, as usual, will be 10 kilometers, but the circuit will be totally different from other previous editions. There will be two laps of five kilometers and the start will be from Avinguda Lateral with calle Josep Pla, as detailed by ‘Betevé’. There will be up to four waves of runners separated by wide time bands (8am, 8.45am, 9.30am and 10.30am) and the finish line will be located at the Mar Bella Sports Center, to touch the sea. The face-to-face race is limited to 3,000 runners and will be held on September 19 and 20 with waves of at most 375 runners to guarantee safe distances.
The virtual race, as in so many others held so far, will be held on the terrain that each one chooses with three distance options: 10, 5 and 2 kilometers. A mobile application will record the route of each person through geolocation.
The Corridor Fair will be located in the Disseny Hub Barcelona Building: plaça de les Glòries, 37-38.
