Eleven German cyclists will start at the 106th Tour de France in Brussels on 6th July. A front ranking in the overall standings is most likely to trust Emanuel Buchmann. The most successful German driver this season is his Bora teammate Maximilian Schachmann with six wins.

+++ 07.07.2019: Tony Martin wins the team time trial on the Tour +++ with Jumbo-Visma

Tony Martin and his Jumbo Visma team won the team time trial of the 106th Tour de France. The Dutch team won 27.6 kilometers on Sunday in Brussels with a time of 28:58 minutes, 20 seconds faster than the British Ineos team for defending champion Geraint Thomas. Third was the Belgian team Deceuninck-Quick Step.

Jumbo rider Mike Teunissen also defended the yellow jersey. The Dutchman surprisingly won on Saturday the opening stage in the sprint ahead of the Slovak former World Champion Peter Sagan. On Monday, the third stage is 215 kilometers from Binche to Épernay. In four smaller climbs on the last 42 kilometers, the sprinter but hardly come to the train.

Defending champion Geraint Thomas has weathered the crash relatively smoothly on the first leg of the 106th Tour de France. "Fortunately no damage, I was slow at the time, I dodged and hit the barrier," the Welshman wrote on Twitter. Thomas had crashed 1.3 kilometers from the finish line in Brussels in the wake of the crash of Sprintstar Dylan Groenewegen as well as the German tour-hopeful Emanuel Buchmann to the ground. Buchmann wore a bloody lip and an open knee.

Co-favorite Jakob Fuglsang got worse. The Dane, who last won the Dauphiné Tour, had to be sewn with three stitches over the eye. He suffered bruises on his right knee and right rib.

Professional cyclist Mike Teunissen has won the first leg of the 106th Tour de France and thus also taken the yellow jersey. The 26-year-old Dutchman from Team Jumbo-Visma won on Saturday after 194.5 kilometers around Brussels gossamer before Peter Sagan from Slovakia and the Australian Caleb Ewan. As expected, German riders played no part in the decision.
