Tour de France: Thibaut Pinot gets off on the 19th stage
Thibaut Pinot and the Tour de France - that's not a love affair. In 2014, the Frenchman came in third place on his home tour as the best young professional and was the first French overall winner since Bernard Hinault 1985 traded. It was followed a year later 16th Place, since then, the 29-year-old has not achieved the goal. Also this year the tour is over for Pinot now, the co-favorite had to get injured on the 19th stage.
Six days ago, Pinot's victory on the Col du Tourmalet finally brought him back to the hearts of the French. In the overall standings, he was only 1:50 minutes behind his compatriot Julian Alaphilippe in fifth place, three days before arriving in Paris , On the way to Tignes Pinot had to be treated early on the left thigh and finally gave up 85 kilometers from the finish in tears, flanked by his teammate William Bonnet.
His team Groupama FDJ later announced on Twitter, Pinot had already suffered on Thursday on the first heavy Alpine stage from Embrun to Valloire a muscle injury to the left thigh. His condition had therefore not improved.
Thus, Pinot remains the big unlucky bird of the tour. He has never worn the yellow jersey in his career and had to give up the tour prematurely in his seventh participation for the fourth time. In 2016 he was stopped by bronchitis, and a year later Pinot got sick again. He was particularly bitter at the Giro d'Italia in 2018, when he finished in two stages before the end of the race, before pneumonia stopped him and he was therefore unable to compete in the Tour.
