Auch ihre gemeinsame Vorliebe für Schlager eint die beiden Offensivspieler der deutschen U21-Nationalmannschaft und inspirierte sie sogar zu einem gemeinsamen Torjubel. In Anlehnung an den Song "Bierkapitän" von Markus Becker und Richard Bier jubeln die beiden Fußballer bei der EM mit einer Bauch-Geste und einem imaginären Hut, den sie voreinander ziehen. "Das ist ein Ohrwurm von uns eigentlich", berichtete der Augsburger Richter über die Entstehungsgeschichte.

Mit insgesamt sieben Toren aus zwei Spielen sind die beiden Stürmer bei der EM derzeit besonders erfolgreich - und so läuft der "Bierkapitän" mittlerweile auch nach den Spielen in der Kabine - unterstützt von Schlager-Fan Timo Baumgartl. "Wenn ein bisschen Musik läuft, dürfen wir auch mal kurz Spaß haben und uns freuen, dann geht es aber auch gleich wieder weiter", sagte Waldschmidt grinsend.

Sogar Kapitän Jonathan Tah und Benjamin Henrichs, die sonst gar nicht auf Schlager stehen, sangen nach dem 6:1-Erfolg gegen Serbien die eine oder andere Zeile mit. "Baumi, Marco und Luca zuliebe haben wir das wieder gespielt", berichtete Henrichs. Tah sagte: "Ich sage mal so, ich hab's über mich ergehen lassen. Es ist nicht so mein Musikgeschmack eigentlich." Auch mit Jovic, der für eine Millionen-Ablöse von Eintracht Frankfurt zu Real Madrid wechselt, hatte Serbien zum EM-Auftakt 0:2 gegen Österreich verloren.

Innenverteidiger Timo Baumgartl lobte Jovic als "kompletten Stürmer". "Er hat alles von einem Topstürmer. Wir müssen gegen ihn als Team verteidigen, das geht vorne los", sagte der U21-Nationalspieler vom VfB Stuttgart. "Er hat eine sehr gute Qualität. Ihren perfekten Start in die EM feierten die deutschen U21-Fußballer um Tor-Debütant Marco Richter mit einer nächtlichen Poolparty. Nationaltrainer Stefan Kuntz gab seinen Jungs nach dem überzeugenden 3:1 (1:0) gegen Dänemark das Go fürs nächtliche Bad - selbst mit ins kühle Nass springen wollte er aber nicht. "Meistens ist der Trainer die Spaßbremse dabei", sagte er schmunzelnd. "Bei den Temperaturen haben sie es verdient, dass man sie mal in Ruhe lässt." Der Sieg bedeutete für den DFB-Nachwuchs auch den ersten wichtigen Schritt in Richtung Titelverteidigung und Olympia-Qualifikation.

Vor allem einer hatte sich nach dem Auftakterfolg am Montagabend in Udine die Belohnung im Pool redlich verdient: Marco Richter vom FC Augsburg entschied die Partie mit seinem beiden Treffern (28./52. Minute). Das dritte Tor durch Luca Waldschmidt (65.) bereitete er vor. "Natürlich war ich sehr glücklich über die Tore. Ganz glauben konnte ich es auch nicht, es waren meine ersten EM-Spiele", sagte der 21-Jährige fast etwas schüchtern vor den vielen Mikrofonen.

Im fünften Länderspiel waren es die ersten Tore für Richter, der bis zur U20 in keiner DFB-Juniorenmannschaft gespielt hatte. "Marco hat sich diesen Startplatz verdient", lobte Kuntz seinen Matchwinner. "Er hat gezeigt, dass er in die erste Elf reingehört." Richter spielte für Hoffenheims Nadiem Amiri, der nach einer Verletzungspause noch nicht bei 100 Prozent ist. "Ich habe heute Morgen erfahren, dass ich spiele. Das war eine geile Überraschung", berichtete Richter.

Mit dem Auftritt des Augsburgers war Coach Kuntz rundum zufrieden, insgesamt war der EM-Auftakt des Titelverteidigers aber vor allem in der Anfangsphase noch ausbaufähig. "Man hat den Spielern angemerkt, dass die Frische für 90 Minuten noch nicht so vorhanden war", gab Kuntz zu. "Mit einem Sieg im Rücken läuft es sich jetzt leichter."

Mit seinen zwei Toren hat Richter den deutschen Nachwuchs-Fußballern zu einer optimalen Ausgangsposition im Kampf um den Halbfinal-Einzug verholfen.
