+++ 01.09.2019: For the first time in New York in the round of 16: But Zverev wants more +++

The first knockout round at the US Open is not enough for Alexander Zverev. "It's not a final, it's only a fourth round, and I want to win more matches here," Zverev said after beating Slovenia's winner Aljaz Bedene. This Monday he has the next chance. In the fight for the quarter-finals, the German number one meets the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman. For the ladies Julia Görges gets to do with the Croatian Donna Vekic.

That only the very special tennis games are remembered and not a normal third round victory Zverev got on Saturday around his win against Bedene again and again in mind. "I think the images of your success back then I saw 30 times on the screen today." Becker won in 1989 in the final against Ivan Lendl.

Zverev is still a long way from achieving such success. But that he would make it in New York for the first time in his tennis career in the fourth round, he would not have expected anyone in advance. After all, the 22-year-old has not yet had a single year behind him, lagging far behind his own and those of fans and experts.

Just in time for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year Zverev comes back into shape. "If he hits well, then he can beat every player in the world," said Becker, himself extremely dependent on his service.

"This was a next step in his career," Becker praised Germany's top players, for whom he also acts as a mentor without an official function. "I love Sasha, I'm always there for him," said the three-time Wimbledon winner recently about Zverev.

With the move to the round of 16, he has met the expectations in New York before, against Schwartzman he can calculate chances again, even if the Argentines has not yet made a set in the course of the tournament so far. "The goal of the best is to play his best tennis in the second week," Zverev said. In the case of a victory against Schwartzman, he will definitely have to do so in the quarterfinals. Because then it could be a duel with Rafael Nadal come. For qualifier Dominik Koepfer was already in the night on Monday the match against the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the fight for the quarter-finals.

On the way back to their best tennis is Görges. The 30-year-old has also gone through some periods of weakness this year. Since the change of coach to Sebastian Sachs, it is for Görges but again up. The Fed Cup player showed a strong performance against Dutchman Bertens, who finished seventh. In her second knockout round at the US Open after 2017, she is now against the Croatian Vekic. "I feel good, the first two laps were a bit tough, but now I'm in the tournament."

+++ 25.08.2019:Das bringt der Tag bei den US Open in New York +++

In New York beginnen am Montag die US Open.

+++ 25.08.2019:Tennisspielerin Mona Barthel muss US Open wegen Verletzung absagen +++

Die US Open in New York finden ohne Tennisspielerin Mona Barthel statt.

+++ 25.08.2019: Kerber bei US Open in New York gegen Mladenovic gefordert +++

+++ 23.08.2019: Kerber zieht optimistisch ohne Trainer in die US Open +++

+++ 21.08.2019: Zverev bei US Open an Nummer sechs gesetzt - Kerber an Nummer 14 +++

US Open in New York an Nummer sechs gesetzt.
