Vuelta: crash with the team Jumbo-Visma - abrasions at Primoz Roglic
Six drivers of the Jumbo Visma racing team came down on the 13.4 kilometers long route through the saline production area Salinas de Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. While the German driver Tony Martin was able to stay on the bike, his Slovenian team-mate Primoz Roglic, co-favorite for the round trip victory, pulled some grazes.
Jumbo-Visma, who had won the Team Time Trial in the Tour de France, reached the finish in 18th place, 40 seconds behind the victorious Astana team led by top Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez. The Vuelta third of the previous year reached the finish as the first of his team and thus took over the jersey of the overall leader.
Degenkolb drives behind
Lopez benefited not only from the mishap of Jumbo-Visma, but also from the chaos in the second-placed team Deceuninck Quick-Step (+0: 02 minutes), in which a number of drivers were taxed in a curve just before the finish. Day three was the German team Sunweb (+0: 05 minutes) to sprinter Max Walscheid and Nikias Arndt. John Degenkolb lost with his team Trek-Segafredo in 15th place already 35 seconds on the winner of the day.
The second of a total of 21 stages leads on Sunday over 199.6 kilometers from Benidorm to Calpe and holds with two climbs of the 2nd category, the last is 14 kilometers from the finish, already greater difficulties ready. The 74th edition of the Vuelta ends on 15 September after 3272.2 kilometers in Madrid.
