Wimbledon 2019: Jan-Lennard Struff eliminated
Jan-Lennard Struff was eliminated after the defeat of Julia Görges against Serena Williams in the afternoon as the last German individual participant in Wimbledon in the third round. The 29-year-old defeated Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin 3: 6, 6: 7 (5: 7), 6: 4, 5: 7 and missed his second knockout round of a Grand Slam tournament after the French Open the previous month ,
Already in the first set Struff had cashed against Kukushkin an early break. This was then lost significantly. Although he made it in the second set in the tiebreak, he gave this too many mistakes from. Struff won the third set.
In the fourth set the game was interrupted at the score of 2: 2. In the spectator area, a medical emergency had occurred, the facility has since been vacated. With 70 minutes on, Kukushkin came back to the match to win five of the eight games, as struff missed too many chances to break.
For the German it was the first time in his career that he was placed in a Grand Slam. Struff had previously defeated Radu Albot of Moldova and Taylor Fritz of the USA in the rounds. As in the previous year, when he lost to Roger Federer, he failed in the third round.
