Wimbledon: Roger Federer defeats Rafael Nadal in the semifinals

Many had expected a full-distance match before the semi-final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Federer did manage to stumble in the second half but found his way back to 7: 6 (7: 3), 1: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4 - after four sets and 3:02 hours the Wimbledon won Record winner in the final of the grass tournament. There he meets Novak Djokovic.
It was the 40th duel of the eternal rivals, at Wimbledon, Federer and Nadal had last played against each other eleven years ago in the final. At that time Nadal won in five sets, the match is still considered one of the most spectacular in the history of the tournament. In the recent past, Federer has won seven of the past eight games against the Spaniard. Overall, it is 16:24 from the perspective of the Swiss.
In the first set both professionals brought their serve games through, so it came to a tiebreak. This decided Federer 7: 3 for themselves. The next round was even more spectacular: When he himself had the chance to break, Federer committed several unnecessary mistakes in a row - then he conceded one himself. Then the 37-year-old broke in, Nadal took another break and made up for sets.
Federer caught himself and won his first two serve games in the third set without losing points. A double mistake by the Swiss allowed Nadal two breakballs, but Federer fended off after long rallies and went 4-1 in the lead. Resolutely he finished the third set.
Nadal ensures tension in the end
In the fourth round, Federer used his second breakball in the third game. From that point Nadal was just behind. At the score of 2: 3, the 33-year-old was close to a break-ball, but made two mistakes. Nadal made it even more exciting at the score of 4: 5 after beating off two match points. A break chance he left unused, fended off two more match points, but had to give the fifth attempt Federer beaten.
In the other semi-final, Novak Djokovic won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. The number one in the world ranking thus gets the chance to defend a title in the final. Last year, Djokovic prevailed in the final against Kevin Anderson.
