News : Women benefit more from the effect of carbon shoes

Kosgei achieved a World Record in tremendous marathon in 2019 in Chicago

According to a study conducted by ‘Frontiers in Sports and Active Living’ and which has analyzed times of elite athletes since 2012, women benefit more from the reactive effect of the new shoes with carbon fiber plate than men. This analysis was carried out to calibrate the ‘advantage’ or the time difference between the TOPs of both male and female gender and the results that it yields are irrefutable.

Samples of 10k, half marathon and marathon races were taken during the last eight years and the results indicate that the times of the vast majority in the three aforementioned distance distances decrease considerably from 2017, the year in which they entered the scene. the ‘supersonic’ shoes with that carbon fiber plate and increased thickness of the midsole.

A significant change

This performance improvement was of similar magnitude in the African and non-African corridors. In elite female athletes, the magnitudes (1.7 to 2.3%) of the decline in best times between 2016 and 2019 were significantly higher than in their male counterparts. (0.6 to 1.5%). “Women are lighter and could possibly benefit more from the enhanced rebound effect achieved by the foam / rigid plate combination,” comments Dr. Stéphane Bermon, lead author of the paper and director of the World Department of Athletics Health and Science.
